Outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill, stone counter and evening lighting

Outdoor Kitchens

Custom Outdoor Kitchens

An outdoor kitchen has to survive a Toronto winter as well as a summer evening. Materials are selected for freeze-thaw performance first and appearance second — which is why some of them cost what they do.

Overview

What the Work Involves

An outdoor kitchen project with ZaRRuS covers built-in BBQ and cooking stations, stone and veneer surrounds, weather-rated countertops, storage and refrigeration, sinks and utility rough-ins, and integrated dining and seating. The work is planned and installed as one job across Toronto and the GTA.

From built-in BBQ stations and countertops to storage, sinks, beverage fridges, stone or veneer surrounds, and integrated dining areas, each space is created for comfort and entertaining.

Materials are selected for freeze-thaw performance, not just appearance, because an outdoor kitchen has to survive a Toronto winter as well as a summer evening.

Who this service is for

Homeowners who entertain outdoors and want a built-in installation rather than a rolled-out barbecue.

What shapes the scope and budget

  • Size and layout. A straight run, an L-shape or an island with seating.
  • Appliances. Built-in grill, side burners, pizza oven and outdoor-rated refrigeration.
  • Utilities. A gas line, electrical circuits and a water supply and drain are roughed in by licensed trades.
  • Base and structure. A concrete pad or interlock base, and the frame and cladding chosen for the climate.
  • Countertops. Granite, porcelain or concrete selected for freeze-thaw performance.
  • Cover. A pergola or roof over the cooking area adds structure and comfort.

Every estimate is written line by line after a site visit. Where a number depends on a decision you have not made yet, it is shown as a range with the variable named.

How the work runs

  1. Site visit. Location, utility routes, distance from the house and drainage.
  2. Design and appliances. Appliances are chosen early because their cut-outs set the design.
  3. Base and utilities. Pad or base built and gas, power and water roughed in.
  4. Structure and cladding. Frame built and finished in stone, veneer or porcelain.
  5. Countertops and appliances. Counters installed and appliances fitted and connected.
  6. Testing and walkthrough. Everything tested, reviewed with you, with winter care notes.

Questions

Outdoor Kitchens Questions

How long does an outdoor kitchen take to build?

Two to five weeks depending on the base, services and surround. A level, drained base and any gas, water or electrical rough-ins are done before the finished surfaces go on.

What’s included in an outdoor kitchen build?

Base preparation, framing or block structure, weather-rated counters, stone or veneer surround, storage and cut-outs for appliances. Gas, water and electrical rough-ins are coordinated with licensed trades.

Do I need a permit for an outdoor kitchen?

The structure itself often falls below permit thresholds, but gas lines, electrical and any roofed structure over it usually do not. Confirm with your municipality before construction.

Can an outdoor kitchen stay outside through winter?

Yes, when the materials are chosen for freeze-thaw. Water lines are drained or shut off in the fall and appliances are covered. Written winterizing notes are left at handover.

Do I need a natural gas line, or can I use propane?

Either works. A natural gas line is convenient for a built-in grill but must be installed by a licensed gas fitter. Propane works with appliances rated for it.
