Overview

One Contractor for the Whole Backyard

A outdoor living project with ZaRRuS covers decks, pergolas and patio covers, custom outdoor kitchens and BBQ stations, fences, gates and privacy screens, interlock, stone walkways and pavers, brick, stone pillars and garden walls, and sheds and backyard structures. The work is planned and installed as one job across Toronto and the GTA.

Most backyards need more than one trade. A deck meets stonework, a pergola meets a fence line, an outdoor kitchen needs a level, drained base beneath it. Running those together under one scope keeps the transitions clean and stops the details falling between trades.

Every structure is planned for Toronto’s freeze-thaw cycle first — footings, drainage, material selection and connection details — because appearance only matters if the build survives the winter.

Questions

Outdoor Project Questions

When is the best time to start an outdoor project?

Most outdoor work runs from spring through late autumn. Booking over winter usually means a better position in the spring schedule, and footings can often be dug earlier in the season than people expect.

Do outdoor structures need a permit?

Often, yes. In Toronto a deck generally requires a permit once it is attached to the house or raised meaningfully above grade, and sheds typically require one above roughly 10 m². Thresholds differ across the GTA, so we check against your specific address.

How are decks and structures built to last through winter?

Footings below the frost line, drainage that moves water away from the structure, hardware rated for exterior use, and connection details that allow timber to move. Freeze-thaw is what breaks outdoor builds here, so it is designed for from the start.
